About me
I have worked in the world of HR for the past 15 years…
…starting as an HR Graduate then moving to roles with a more specialist focus such as Talent Management, Organisation Design (OD), Learning and Development and Project Management. I have loved working in global organisations, with people from many different cultures, nationalities, backgrounds and a vast range of life experiences. I enjoyed the family feel of starting my career at the “grass roots” level as an HR Graduate in warehousing and distribution for Gist. Then expanding my knowledge of the business world in a much larger, more multinational organisation at Siemens, whilst at the same time focusing in on the specialism of Talent Management.
After nearly 6 years at Siemens, working on projects across the UK and throughout Northern Europe, I moved on to a diverse HR Planning Manager role that brought me into contact with people from across the globe at Samsung Electronics. These roles taught me the power of diversity – diversity of culture, knowledge, skills and experience. And I had some amazing adventures travelling and working around the world.
Firstly, so I could manage my work-life balance better and be my own boss.
Secondly, so my (now) husband and I could get a dog (we ended up with 2).
Thirdly, so we could all move to the Highlands of Scotland to be surrounded by mountains and Lochs (a key element of the work-life balance).
And I haven’t looked back.
In 2020, mid-pandemic, I completed an MSc in Coaching and Behavioural Change (from Henley Business School), with my dissertation research looking at the benefits of taking coaching conversations outdoors (eco-coaching). Since then I’ve been expanding my knowledge on the neuroscience of coaching – I am an advocate of life-long learning after all – and started The Coaching Outdoors Podcast, with a fellow outdoor coach Anna-Marie Watson, interviewing practitioners who have taken their coaching outdoors, specialists in nature therapy, environmentalists, conservationists and people with a specialist knowledge in the benefits of nature connectedness.
Living in the Highlands means I spend my free time, and thinking time, out and about in nature – walking, hiking, cycling – with my husband and dogs Obi (a Patterdale Terrier) and Tali (an Airedale Terrier). Our future involves a smallholding, with alpaca, rescue donkeys and more dogs.
If you would like to know more about the benefits of nature I have created a summary of my dissertation research, and others’ research, which you can download here. I would love to connect so please visit my LinkedIn profile or contact me for more information.
